Our History and Milestones

The Department of Accountancy was established in 2000 with a mission to provide top-notch education in the field of accountancy. We have achieved several important milestones, including the establishment of the ANAN Research Center for Training and Research Innovation. Our dedication to academic excellence is evident in the creation of a fully equipped departmental digital and physical library, providing our students and staff with the resources they need to excel.

Our Achievements

Our commitment to excellence has led to numerous achievements:

– Full Accreditation: We have maintained full accreditation for both our undergraduate regular and part-time programmes since 2000, and our postgraduate programmes from 2012 to 2016 and from 2017 to date.

– State-of-the-Art Facilities: We have built and fully equipped a departmental library and computer lab for practical learning.

– Conferences and Training: We conducted our first Departmental International Conference in May 2022, focusing on capacity building and sustainable development in the context of the 4th Industrial Revolution. Additionally, we organized APA 7th edition training for our staff in March 2024.

– Research and Innovation: Attracted the establishment of the ANAN Research Center for Training and Research Innovation.

Mission Statement:

Our mission is to provide an excellent platform for research, teaching, and learning in science, technology, and humanities. We aim to produce graduates who are skilled, functionally creative, and worthy in character, equipped to make significant and sustainable contributions to the overall development of society.

Undergraduate Philosophy/Values:

We offer a four-year regular and five-year part-time degree programme in Accountancy, emphasizing the completion of all stipulated courses and required credit hours. Our programme includes industrial training to enhance practical skills, preparing students for real-world challenges.

Postgraduate Philosophy/Values:

Our postgraduate programme addresses the dearth of senior academic staff specializing in accountancy in Nigerian universities. We aim to develop and deepen the spirit of inquiry and responsibility in graduate accountants, enabling them to take on research, teaching, and administrative roles in both the private and public sectors.

Admission Requirements and Procedures

Undergraduate Admission:

– Requirements: Five credit passes including English, Mathematics, and Economics.

– Direct Entry: National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND), or Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) holders in relevant fields with credit passes.

Postgraduate Admission:

– Postgraduate Diploma (PGD): Holders of a B.Sc. degree, HND, or professional certificates in accountancy.

– Master’s Degree (M.Sc.): Holders of a B.Sc. degree in accountancy or related fields with at least a second class lower division, or PGD holders with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.

– Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.): Holders of M.Sc. or M.Phil. degrees in accountancy with a minimum CGPA of 3.50.

 

Deferment and Registration:

– Undergraduate: New students must register within two weeks of resumption, with provisions for late registration under specific conditions.

– Postgraduate: Admission deferment requests must be made two weeks before matriculation, and candidates must register at the commencement of the semester.
