The Faculty of Clinical Medicine is a distinguished center of clinical education, patient care, and medical innovation. As a core component of COOU's medical training, the faculty is dedicated to producing highly skilled, compassionate, and ethically grounded medical doctors. The Faculty of Clinical Medicine is based at the Awka Campus, which houses the College of Medicine and Teaching Hospital, equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities at the Amaku General Hospital .


The faculty is led by the Dean, a position currently held by Prof. Obiora Ejiofor, a Professor of Paediatrics . The faculty's administrative office includes a dedicated Dean's office staff .


Since its establishment as part of the university, the faculty has remained unwavering in its commitment to addressing pressing health challenges, from infectious diseases to non-communicable conditions, through excellence in clinical training, research, and community service. Clinical Medicine is understood as the bridge between foundational medical knowledge and the restoration of health, providing students with the rigorous, hands-on experience required for a successful career in healthcare.


Academic Programs

The Faculty of Clinical Medicine offers comprehensive academic programs designed to produce clinically proficient graduates. The primary focus includes the clinical components of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, where students transition from pre-clinical studies to direct patient care. In addition to the undergraduate medical program, the faculty provides postgraduate opportunities, including Postgraduate Diploma (PGD), Master's (M.Sc.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees, equipping graduates for careers in specialized medicine, research, and healthcare leadership .


Clinical Training and Departments

Students engage with the broader medical community through clinical rotations, outreach programs, and public health initiatives, ensuring education extends beyond the hospital walls. The faculty comprises various departments covering the major clinical specialties, including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Community Medicine .
